  One of the cheapest hotels in Cuba, and it's obvious why. Miserable staff if they don't know you. This hotel is a favourite with many low income seniors from Canada, so much so that if you're a first timer it feels like you've just intruded on a big clique. Food is the worst I've had in Cuba - not butter and mostly the same food, dinner, lunch or breakfast. Excellent bread though, but zero butter! Maintenance of the resort is poor, shoddy repairs and tripping hazards on the walkways, pool water is scummy from all the lotion etc.. Don't bother upgrading to the Cabanas, they're worse than the regular rooms - Farallon upgrade is much better in every way, these are the 'superior' rooms when you're booking. Rooms are kept clean and maids are always sweeping the sand that blows up from the beach. Beach isn't great and water isn't safe. Many days the waves and under currents were incredibly strong, a bit scary even for us seasoned swimmers. Not at all good for kids, gets deep fairly quickly unlike many other Cuban beaches that are perfect for kids to play safely. Not a lot of young people here and only a couple of families, the majority of visitors were well over 70, many in very poor health, it felt more like visiting a nursing home and dining was so gloomy in a small dining room with curtains blocking the lovely mountain views - it felt like you were dining at a homeless shelter - no actually, the homeless shelters I've worked at are much better with a much better selection and variety of food. There was no opportunity to book a la cart meals at either of the hotels at this resort, they were both fully booked when we arrived because the amount of times you can book isn't limited, so the regulars book every night as soon as they get there. Other visitors were complaining about this, some had been there for several weeks and still couldn't get a reservation. MICE - we had mice in our luggage several nights, leaving poop in our cases and nibbling on our snacks - we had to clean out our luggage and throw all the snacks away. Ughh! Because of the mountains nearby it rains almost every evening, terrible for bugs, people were very bitten from sand fleas and mosquitoes, they don't do any pest treatment here like they do at other resorts and the walkways are all tiled so lots of people slipping and falling when it gets wet. Staff here are very brazen about asking you to bring them stuff - bear in mind that resort workers are the best paid in Cuba, even better paid than Cuban doctors, they were all wearing better footwear than I could afford. To be honest, I wanted something cheap and cheerful but wish that I'd paid an extra $100 to get a much nicer holiday, I would advise people not to waste their money on this resort.

  I go a minimum once a year. Great staff clean rooms.

  2nd time going. Nice and quiet, people are very friendly. The views of the mountains are simply amazing. Food is the same every day however; I didn't mind as it was good.

  Great place to visit and the people are very friendly. I also rode horse with Cuba Horseback Rides, a private company located right at the hotel and it was perfect.
