::Mirador is an adorable mountainside country resort. Have a beer or cafe in the open air lobby or dining room with their breathtaking view of the surrounding day and night sky countryside. The rooms (I rate them a B-) while not high-end, are quaint small Spanish style bungalows with air conditioning, spread along a lush path down to a pool area hanging off the hillside. Built as the Castro era was being born and later a perk for the military, government and external supporters (Russians), Mirador is today a simple, charming, eco-style resort for foreigners and "some" locals. Don't look for US style amenities, and please understand that this is still a communist country where the average worker earns the equivalent of $30-40 per month (if you go please tip well) and simple amenities like effective plumbing are scarce. So the locals can't afford expensive escapes. But if you're a visitor looking for something off the traditional Cuban path and can enjoy tropical wilderness, Mirador with it's quaint accommodations are something you need to experience if you are in the Holguin area.
